Ancient Sites eBike Tour – Cycle Through Centuries of Cashel’s History

Step into the storybook streets of Cashel on our Ancient Sites eBike Tour—a leisurely guided journey through some of the town’s most treasured medieval landmarks, ending with a well-earned treat in the cosy surrounds of the Guinness Bar at Cashel Palace.
This scenic 9km route is designed for ease and enjoyment, tracing short, quiet paths between centuries-old sites. Departing from the front entrance of Cashel Palace, your guide will take you from castle to cathedral, revealing the remarkable tales that shaped this iconic town.

Tour Highlights

  • Dominic’s Abbey (13th Century) – Discover the lives of the Dominican friars who once called this stone abbey home.
  • St John the Baptist Cathedral (18th Century) – Pass by this elegant Church of Ireland cathedral in the heart of town.
  • Scenic Rock of Cashel Viewpoints – Pause to enjoy panoramic views and photo opportunities of this legendary site.
  • Hore Abbey (13th Century) – Explore the hauntingly beautiful ruins of this former Cistercian monastery, rich in legend and history.
  • The Rock of Cashel – Conclude with a guided tour of Ireland’s most iconic ecclesiastical landmark—once a seat of kings and spiritual stronghold from the 5th to 12th century.
After exploring the Rock, guests descend by foot along the peaceful Bishop’s Walk, returning to Cashel Palace for a delightful tea or coffee and freshly baked scones in the inviting Guinness Bar.

Fethard Culture & Castle Loop

This tailored tour explores the history of medieval Fethard and its enchanting surrounds. Commencing in the heart of the town at the 400 year old Thosel Building, home of Fethard Horse Country Experience, savour pre-cycle refreshments and learn about the area’s rich heritage, farmlands and equine culture. Following a visit to the 13th Century Holy Trinity Anglican Church, take to the open roads. Traverse quieter by-ways to the north of Fethard, taking in views and stories of St Johnstown Castle and Knockelly Castle. Return to Fethard via the last remaining stone arch entryway, the North Gate.

Extend the day out with some delicious dining, adding on an optional brunch, lunch or dinner at Sadler’s Restaurant, Fethard.

Holycross Tour

This scenic cycling experience takes you on a historic and peaceful loop through the heart of County Tipperary. Beginning in Cashel, it combines natural beauty, medieval landmarks, and charming countryside routes.
Distance: 41km
Time: 3 Hours
Meeting Point: The front entrance of the Cashel Palace Hotel
Difficulty Level: Moderate – no major climbs after the initial uphill section leaving Cashel.
Highlights

Start your tour from the Cashel Palace Hotel and ascend Palmer’s Hill, offering fantastic views back towards the Rock of Cashel. Journey along quiet, rural roads through fertile farmland en route to Holycross village. Upon arrival, take in the tranquil riverside setting on the banks of the River Suir and explore the interior of the renowned Holycross Abbey. Learn about its medieval origins and the 20th-century restoration that brought it back to life as a place of worship.

The return journey follows the course of the Suir, passing through Nodstown and Ardmayle areas steeped in history and dotted with ancient churches and castle ruins. Finish with a leisurely ride along country lanes into Cashel, taking in sights such as Hore Abbey, the Rock of Cashel, and the Dominican Abbey.

Cancellation Policy
 
We understand that plans can change. Bookings may be cancelled up to 48 hours before the booking free of charge. After this time, bookings which are cancelled up to 10pm on the day before the booking will incur a flat fee of €100. Cancellation after this point will be charged at 50% of the booking fee.  An exception will be made in the event of a Met Eireann weather warning (yellow, orange or red status) for Co Tipperary, in which case you will be given the choice of rescheduling or cancelling with no charge. Typically, Met Eireann weather warnings are issued 24 hours in advance and can be viewed at https://www.met.ie/warnings-today.html
