Leaving Cashel, the journey travels through the rolling farmland of Tipperary to the picturesque town of Cahir, home to one of Ireland’s best-preserved Norman fortresses. During your guided tour of Cahir Castle, discover its defensive towers, thick stone walls, and fascinating history. Built in the 12th century and dramatically situated on a rocky island in the River Suir, the castle played an important role in Ireland’s turbulent medieval history and remains one of the most impressive castles in the country.

From Cahir, the experience continues to the charming medieval walled town of Fethard, long associated with horse breeding and the proud traditions of Irish racing.

Here you will enjoy lunch at Sadler’s Restaurant, a welcoming and highly regarded local establishment known for its excellent cuisine and relaxed atmosphere.

After lunch, a guided walking tour of Fethard reveals the town’s remarkable medieval character. Walk along sections of the original town walls, discover historic gates and centuries-old buildings, and hear stories of merchants, nobles, and colourful local characters who shaped the town’s long history.

The afternoon continues with a visit to the Fethard Horse Country Experience, where you will gain fascinating insight into the region’s deep connection with the world of thoroughbred horses and racing. This engaging visitor centre celebrates the heritage of horse breeding in the area, including its links to nearby world-famous stud farms.
